Why The reason behind it
Chaturthi is Ganesha's tithi, and the Krishna Paksha one is kept for the removal of sankata โ difficulty. The moonrise ending is what gives the observance its shape: a whole day held, then a specific moment to end it.

- Keep the fast through the day; phalahara or a single evening meal after the moon.
- Perform the Ganesha puja in the evening with durva and modak.
- At moonrise, offer arghya to the moon, then break the fast.
- Recite the month's Sankashti katha where the household keeps it.
