What we store

One cookie, hc_prefs, on your device. It holds the city name, latitude, longitude and timezone you selected, your regional calendar, your sampradaya and your month-reckoning preference. Nothing in it identifies you.

There is no account system on this site, so there is no server-side profile of you to hold.

What we do not do

• We do not ask for your name, birth details or phone number.
• We do not sell or share what you set here.
• We do not put your location in a URL, so it does not end up in referrer headers or logs of other sites.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people actually read, so we know where to spend effort. It sets its own cookies, and Google receives your visit and processes it as our data processor.

Google states that GA4 masks IP addresses automatically — it is standardised on and not something a site can switch on or off, so we make no claim to have enabled it. Google separately states that it does not log or store individual IP addresses for visitors in the EU, Switzerland and the UK; it does not make that same statement for visitors elsewhere, and we would rather tell you that than imply a protection that may not apply to you. The analytics cookie is set SameSite=Lax, so it is not sent when another site links to us.

We keep this to basic page measurement and nothing more: no custom event tracking, no user IDs, no advertising or remarketing signals, and no tracking across other sites.

Your settings are not sent. The city, latitude, longitude, region and tradition you choose stay in the hc_prefs cookie on your device. We never send them to Google and never put them in a URL — which is also why the calendar subscription link carries only your region and not your location.

Google Analytics can still derive approximate geographic information from your visit. Google says this can include your city (and the latitude and longitude of that city), region, country and continent, based on the network request. We do not send Google the city or coordinates you save in HinduCalendar settings. These are two separate things, and the first is not prevented by the second.

Google provides controls to disable collection of certain granular location and device data on a per-region basis. We have not applied them — saying the controls exist without saying whether we use them would imply we do.

To opt out entirely, use your browser's tracking protection, an extension that blocks Google Analytics, or Google's own opt-out add-on. The site works fully without it.

Server logs

Our web server keeps standard access logs — IP address, page requested, user agent, time — for security and diagnostics, on a short rotation. That is ordinary web-server behaviour and is not linked to your preferences.
