What In short
The monthly night of Shiva: a lighter form of the Maha Shivaratri observance, kept with a fast and worship in the nishita watch.
- Deity: Shiva
- Recurs: monthly
Why The reason behind it
The annual festival is the best-known instance of a rite that recurs every month. Households that keep it monthly treat Maha Shivaratri as the one they hold most strictly rather than as a different observance.
Traditional basis
Shiva Purana โ Prescribes the monthly Chaturdashi observance of which the Phalguna one is the greatest.

- Fast through the day according to the household's rule.

Maha Shivaratri happens once a year, but there is a smaller one every single month.
Common questions
