Panchaka Rahita
The parts of the day free of the five faults.
Computed as (tithi + vara + nakshatra + lagna) reduced modulo nine: certain remainders mark a segment as carrying one of five named faults — Mrityu, Agni, Raja, Chora and Roga — and the remainder mark it as rahita, free of them. Because the lagna term changes through the day, the classification changes segment by segment rather than applying to the day as a whole. It is a Kerala and western-Indian convention more than a pan-Indian one.
