Karana
Half a tithi; eleven names, four of them fixed.
Each tithi is divided into two karanas, giving 60 in a lunar month. Seven repeat cyclically and four are fixed. The one that matters most in practice is Vishti — Bhadra — which is avoided for auspicious beginnings and is the reason Holika Dahan and Raksha Bandhan windows are often published as starting late.
